For the May Victoria Day long weekend, Mike and I went to Galiano Island.
We hadn't been to this island yet and heard that it was very peaceful and sceneic.
I reserved a cottage by looking for pet friendly accommodations on the Internet. The cottage was very nice with a BBQ and a wood stove inside. The doggies roamed around and we were very pleased with the patios and the right of way to the beach near by. There was even wireless for Mike.
The Ferry ride was pleasant and short and on the way into our cottage we picked up some drinks. We were told by the owner it was best to buy groceries before coming as there were only small grocery stores and they were very pricey.
The owners of the cottage also owned a kayak and scooter rentals so they had this great map of the island that showed all the parks.
A lot of the people on the island keep chickens for fresh eggs. Our host did and the dogs seemed to leave them alone as they were in an enclosure.
At one point right before we left, we were eating dinner outside and we noticed Unos was gone.
We called him and he came tearing around the corner. The owner came out and was surprised to see both dogs laying innocently at our feet as apparently her neighbour with free range chickens had called to complain that a black lab was chasing her chickens!
Unos was a little chicken chaser! I wish I could of seen him. I wonder if he was just curious, or actually more sinister than that.
We checked out the map and on a couple of days did some hiking and walking around the near by parks and beaches.
A couple of the parks due to the nature of the island had very steep drops to the beaches below.
The dogs were having a fantastic time running around the paths but it was a little dangerous and we used our "no" voices a few times to keep them away from the edges.
We had a great time and it was very relaxing. Tonight we are going to see Cold Play at GM Place.
The opening act is Snow Patrol which I'm also loooking forward to seeing.
Next weekend we will be leaving for our vacation in Fredericton and I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone and to some R&R. I want to say a happy Father's Day to our Dad's this weekend to. We love you very much and will see you soon!
